Robert Plant Releases New Song, Announces New 'Carry Fire' Album

Robert Plant has announced his 11th studio album, Carry Fire, due out October 13.

The first single, "The May Queen," is available now. You can listen to it below.

Carry Fire contains 11 tracks, as well as a duet with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, who joins Plant on "Bluebirds Over the Mountain."

The former Led Zeppelin frontman made news this spring when his website changed suddenly to simple black screen with the words "Any Time Now..."

Fans immediately began speculating that Plant was teasing a long-awaited reunion with his former band. Weeks past and anticipation fizzled. It appears Plant was just having a bit of fun.

Carry Fire does appear to find Plant in a reflective mood, though. "The May Queen," for example, is an obvious reference to a lyric from Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven."

"I respect and relish my past works," Plant says in a statement about the new album, "but each time I feel the incentive to create new work, I must mix old with new. Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat—the new sound and difference space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation."
